Kenosha fatal shooting: Man found dead in apartment, deemed home invasion

KENOSHA, Wis. - One person is dead following a shooting near 15th Street and Wood Road in Kenosha.

Police were dispatched to the area around 4:25 a.m. on Friday, June 21.

A 24-year-old man was found dead inside an apartment. He has been identified as Izerion Cooper.

Police said after investigating, they believe a burglary was committed earlier in the day at the address and a firearm was stolen by Cooper and 20-year-old Dieonte Lee.

Later that day, Cooper returned to the residence to retrieve property that he left behind. The tenant of the residence was home and a physical struggle ensued. Cooper was armed at the time of the struggle.

Police said the tenant had become the victim of an armed home invasion at his residence and acted in defense of himself.

No homicide related charges will be filed.

Lee has been arrested and charged with burglary – arming self with a dangerous weapon and theft of a firearm.

Detectives are still actively investigating the incident.
