Kern Medical cuts ribbon on new addiction clinic

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern Medical expanded its services for community members struggling with substance abuse by cutting the ribbon on its new addiction clinic Monday.

The new Medication Assistance and Recovery Clinic is available to treat all ages and all substances–from marijuana, tobacco and alcohol to fentanyl and methamphetamine. The new clinic is also equipped to treat behavioral addictions.

“They meet you on the same level. You’re not somebody from the street, you’re not homeless and you’re not a drug addict or an alcoholic. You’re a person and you mean to them just like everybody else. They begin to talk to you and make you feel important,” Robert Long who has been four years sober said.

Kern Medical also announced an Addiction Medicine Fellowship to train physicians in these specialties Monday morning.

The first fellow will begin in July.
