[1] South Fork Fire burns 16,349 acres near Ruidoso, estimated 1,400 structures lost – Two people have died and more than 1,400 structures have been lost in the South Fork and Salt Fires. The fires are still 0% contained. The South Fork Fire is burning more than 16,000 acres and the Salt Fire more than 7,000. Thursday, an additional 570 firefighters arrived in Ruidoso.

[2] Federal funds approved to support wildfire recovery efforts in New Mexico – Thursday, President Joe Biden approved a major disaster declaration for Lincoln County and the Mescalero Apache Tribe. The declaration will release federal funding to families and businesses in the areas affected by the fires. The governor’s office and department of homeland security say they are now working to add Otero County to the declaration.

[3] Showers and storms Friday through the weekend – Moisture will continue streaming into the state today, with scattered showers and storms in eastern New Mexico all day. Isolated storms will develop in northwest NM and southwest CO this afternoon, moving east through the overnight hours. These storms may become severe, with damaging wind and hail as the main threats. The storms will move into the Rio Grande Valley and northern mountains late in the evening, after 9 PM, bringing strong winds and heavy rain.

[4] ABQ advisory board recommends making discrimination against homeless a hate crime – A new proposal would create a new classification of hate crime against homeless people in Albuquerque. The resolution from the city’s Human Rights Board would ramp up penalties for any crime if the victim was targeted for being homeless. If passed by the board, the resolution would need to go before Albuquerque City Council to be approved.

[5] Bernalillo County GO Bond package – Bernalillo County is released a look at this year’s General Obligation Bond Questions. The package includes questions on the next general election ballot. The county commission is expected to vote on the final version of the bond package before it goes to voters in November.
