Lane closures planned for Highway 64 in Fort Smith

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Lane closures on Highway 64 between Riverfront Drive in Fort Smith and South 4th Street in Van Buren will begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, June 17, weather permitting.

One traffic lane will remain open in eastbound and westbound directions at all times, according to a news release from the Arkansas Department of Transportation.

The project features hydro demolition of the existing bridge decks and placement of a latex modified concrete overlay across the Arkansas River Bridge and the relief bridge.

FORT SMITH: Townson Avenue to have lane closures for a month

Hydro Demolition is the process of using high-pressure jet streams to remove concrete, asphalt, and other materials from a surface. The work is expected to be completed within four months.

Traffic will be controlled by the use of barrels, barricades, and signage. Drivers are encouraged to use caution around the area.
