Large hole opens in Casey Key Road, Sarasota County one lane for construction repairs

Part of Casey Key Road was closed for repairs on Friday after a void opened in the road.

The large hole was caused by wave action and wash over from Invest 90L, the storm system that brought historic flooding to Sarasota County. Repairs were expected to be completed by the end of Saturday.

The southbound lane of North Casey Key Road was closed at 230 N. Casey Key Road, and the northbound lane used for a single lane of alternating two-way traffic. Traffic control devices will be placed for overnight lane closures, along with stop-controlled two-way traffic.

Pedestrians and bicyclists were advised to avoid North Casey Key Road to prevent conflict with road work and traffic.
