Letter: Reading leaders failing to keep the city safe

Editor:

In “Very disgusted” (Reading Eagle, June 12) City Council President Donna Reed stated, “I’m so tired of seeing all these know-it-alls from the suburbs saying (on social media), ‘I’ll never go into Reading. I’ll never cross that bridge because of those terrible people.’ We have 90,000 good people in this city.”

That may be true, but as one of those “know-it-alls,” this is what I do know. You’re not going to stop what’s happening in the city by blocking access to certain areas. The lawbreakers will just gather someplace else. You need to arrest them and get them off the streets.

The people on City Council need to stop trying to make the city out to be something it is not.

Those 90,000 good people want the streets safe for their children. We in the suburbs may be know-it-alls, but we are a lot safer than people living in the city.

Reading used to be a great place to raise a family. What happened? Maybe it’s the know-it-alls in the city government.
