Levi Wright's Mom Speaks Out After 3-Year-Old Son's Death: 'I Will Lose Sleep Over This for Eternity'

Kallie Wright said that not watching her son riding his toy tractor is "a decision that will haunt me for the rest of my life"

Levi Wright's mom is speaking out after his death.

In a post on Facebook in the early hours on Thursday, June 6, Kallie Wright, who shares Levi with rodeo star Spencer Wright, spoke for the first time since his death — including about her regret over what happened on the day he drove his toy tractor into a Utah river last month.

Levi was just 3 years old when he died on June 2, less than two weeks after the accident on May 21. The toddler had been hospitalized and in a critical condition until he was taken off life support.

Explaining that she was writing her post at 3 a.m. as her "mind is running wild," Kallie went on to say, "I'd like to share something vulnerable and hard. Unless you've been to my place it's hard to paint a picture of how something like this can happen."

Kallie then explained that there's a creek that runs through the family's property which separates their home from their children's grandparents' house.

"Through that creek is a road made of concrete," she wrote. "It's how we've gotten to their house safely most days as sometimes our dirt road is a nascar raceway."

"My kids have rode their bikes, driven their ride on toys & even walked this way a million times," she added alongside a video of her family crossing the creek on horseback. "Water only runs through for a short time during the year and can change over night."

"Levi did not do anything he hasn't done before, but this time the water was at its peak & strong enough to push his tractor off the road into the creek as he drove through," she continued.

"He asked me to ride his tractor and I explained that grandma wasn't home, he shouldn't drive through the creek or the road and just to ride around the house. As he drove off, I ran back in the house," Kallie wrote. "That's a decision that will haunt me for the rest of my life."

"In that moment he was my responsibility alone. Whether I went back to check on my sleeping baby, swap the laundry, wash a bottle or put away lunch, I honestly don't know. Whatever it was, wasn't more important than following him that day," she added.

Kallie wrote that she "will lose sleep over this for eternity," but added: "I know 3 things to be true," seemingly pushing back on any online attacks on the family.

"1. I am not a perfect mom but I am a good mom. 2. My little boy loved me with all he had. 3. Never say never because it only takes seconds and it can happen to you too. I pray anyone who judges me or has hurtful words to say never finds themself on the receiving end of a nightmare like this," she continued.

Kallie concluded her post with two passages from the Bible.

The Beaver County Sheriff’s Office previously said authorities responded to the call about the incident around 6 p.m. local time on May 21. “Life-saving measures were administered on scene" before Levi was transported to Beaver Valley Hospital in critical condition.

Levi was later transferred to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. Family friend Mindy Sue Clark previously told PEOPLE he was removed from life support on June 2.

Kallie announced that the family would be “letting him go” in a social media post shared that same day. “After several sleepless nights, lots of research, multiple conversations with the world's best neurologists & millions of prayers we are here in the face of our biggest fear,” she wrote.

“Levi showed us just enough to buy us time for all of this,” Kallie wrote. “We prayed those things were him defying odds & proving to us that he wanted to stay here but we see now he wanted to give us time to find peace with letting him go. I told you my baby was thoughtful & considerate, I truly believe he did that for us.”

“We will miss him every second of every day down here but feel without unwavering doubt this is the best thing we can do for him!" the mother of three wrote. "We love you baby beans and I can't wait till the day you can 'work the ground' with me again!”

Kallie is married to Spencer Wright, who was ranked 35th in the world in 2023 by ProRodeo and was the World Champion in 2014.

In a May 26 post on her Facebook page, Kallie thanked the medical staff at Primary Children's Hospital for helping her son.

“Whether that is time to see if God provides a miracle to us or whether it's time for us to research, learn and process this all in order to make the most informed decisions,” she wrote then.
