LIST: Local school systems offering summer meal programs

GEORGIA (WRBL) – Summer is here and some school districts are offering free school breakfast and lunches to students during the break. Here’s a look at three local Georgia school systems offering free meals through a summer feeding program.

TROUP COUNTY – The Troup County School System is offering summer meals to all children 18 and younger every Monday or Wednesday. The program starts on June 3 and will last until July 24.

The school system says participants will be provided with 7 days’ worth of breakfast and lunch at multiple sites. The route for the drop-off of food goes as follows. Route one will travel through LaGrange and stop at:

  • Lee’s Crossing Apartments from 9 a.m. -9:20 a.m.

  • LaGrange Memorial Library 9:35 a.m. – 10 a.m.

  • Laurel Crossing 10:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

  • Wood Glen Apartments 12 p.m. – 12:20 p.m.

  • Sword of the Lord 12:30 p.m. – 12:45 p.m.

Route two will travel through Hogansville at the following locations:

  • Hogansville Housing (403 W. Boyd Rd.) 9 a.m. – 9:15 a.m.

  • Hogansville Housing (200 W. Boyd Rd.) 9:20 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

  • Hogansville Housing (200 Lawrence St.) 9:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

  • God’s Bread Basket 10:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

  • Hogansville Library 10: 35 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Route three will travel through West Point and visit the following places:

  • West Point Sportsplex 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

  • Bethlehem Baptist Church 9:45 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.

  • West Point United Methodist Church 10:25 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.

The school system noted that parents/guardians and recipients must call the nutrition office at 706-883-1588 to pre-order meals every Wednesday for the upcoming drop-off days.

HARRIS COUNTY – The Harris County School District (HCSD) also offers free meals through its Seamless Summer Feeding Program.

During this summer, the school district is providing two free meal options:

  • On-site meals will be served at Harris County High School and must be consumed in the school’s cafeteria. The on-site meal option will be available to students from June 3 through June 27. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Lunches will be served from 10 a.m. to noon.

  • Weekly pick-ups for seven days’ worth of breakfast and lunches will be available at Park Elementary starting on June 3 and continue on June 10, 17th, 24th and July 8 and 15th. The school district requires a parent/guardian to pick up meals.

Both options are available to children 18 and under.

MUSCOGEE COUNTY – The Muscogee County School District’s School Nutrition Program is participating in the Seamless Summer Option. Through the program, the school district is offering meals to students under the age of 18 throughout the summer. The school district only requires the meals to be eaten on-site. All breakfast meals will be served from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. at the following schools on June 3-6, June 10-13, June 17, 18th, 20th, 21st, June 24-27 and July 1-3:

  • Blanchard Elementary School

  • Clubview Elementary School

  • Double Churches Elementary

  • Fox Elementary School

  • Lonnie Jackson Academy

  • Rigdon Road Elementary School

  • South Columue Elementary School

  • Waddell Elementary School

  • Wesley Heights Elementary School

All breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. at the schools listed on June 3-6, June 10-13, June 17, 18th, 20th, 21st, June 24-27:

  • Baker Middle School

  • Double Churches Middle School

  • East Columbus Middle School

  • Midland Middle School

  • Rainey-McCullers School of the Arts

  • Rothschild Leadership Academy
