Schools sent students home due to weather concerns

(WJW) – One local school canceled classes on Tuesday because of the risk of severe weather and other districts made the call to dismiss students early.

In Richland County, the Madison Local School District announced that schools were closed “due to the risk of severe weather and tornadoes this afternoon.”

Clear Fork Valley Schools announced they would dismiss students at 12:30 p.m. and canceled all after-school activities “in response to the current weather conditions.”

In Ashland County, Mapleton Local Schools announced students would be sent home at 1 p.m. “due to flooding and potential for severe weather.”

In Carroll County, Carrollton Exempted Village Schools and Conotton Valley Union Local Schools announced students would also be dismissed early.

According to a post on the Carrollton School webpage, high school and middle school students were dismissed at 11 a.m. and elementary students were scheduled to be dismissed at noon. The post said the early dismissal was “due to road conditions and the forecast.” Earlier in the day, the district posted that several buses were running late for school due to localized flooding.

According to a Conotton Valley Union school Facebook post, students were dismissed at 10:30 a.m. “due to heavy flooding.”

The FOX 8 weather team is calling for multiple lines of strong and severe storms. The storms could bring large hail and wind gusts 75 mph+. In addition, there is moderate potential for tornadoes, said Meteorologist Alexis Walters.
