Major works planned for main town route
Drainage and resurfacing work on a major county road are to take place over the summer.
Warwickshire County Council announced plans for extensive work to be carried out to the A444 in Nuneaton from Sunday 21 July until September.
Work will start both inbound and outbound on the A444 Griff Way, from Griff Island to Hospital Island, and the A444 Bedworth Bypass from Griff Island to Walsingham Drive Island.
Drainage work will be carried out first, with the resurfacing planned for Thursday 8 August.
The council said the "much-needed repairs" followed the resurfacing of the A444 Griff Island roundabout last year.
The first phase will see lane closures from 8:00 BST to 17:00 BST starting on 21 July for four consecutive Sundays.
The second phase of the project will take 28 nights - excluding the August Bank Holiday - from 8 August. Works will be conducted between 20:00 BST and 6:00 BST, including weekends.
It will involve removing and replacing the existing road surface to a depth of 110mm across the entire carriageway to improve the strength of the road and create a "smoother, safer surface", said the council.
Councillor Jan Matecki said: "We have carefully assessed the needs of the A444 Nuneaton corridor and identified these works as a priority for the county.
"Resurfacing this key route will ensure the approach to Nuneaton reflects our ambition for the town centre and that the carriageway is safe for the high volume of traffic it serves."
