Local police are investigating after a man drowned in St-Basile-le-Grand on Montreal's South Shore Saturday morning.

The Régie intermunicipale de police Richelieu Saint-Laurent received a call around 10:15 a.m. reporting the incident at a private residential pool on De la Montagne Street.

Officers attempted to revive a 21-year-old man found near the pool, says local police officer Caroline Montpetit.

He was brought to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say they are investigating to better understand the causes behind the drowning.
