Man accused in beating death of 13-year-old Isaiah Gaymes waives preliminary hearing in Horry County

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A man accused of murder in the beating death of a 13-year-old Horry County boy in May waived a preliminary hearing Friday morning.

Ivy Jenerette, 40, who has been in jail since his arrest on May 8, was scheduled to appear at a hearing on Friday morning. He is charged with murder and abuse in the killing of Isaiah Gaymes, who authorities said was beaten to death with a piece of wood and a handgun on May 8.

Gaymes suffered multiple blunt force injuries to the side and back of his head along with several other injuries including broken bones and burns, according to an arrest warrant.

Isaiah’s mother, Samantha Gaymes, who lived with Jenerette in the Longs area, was also arrested after her son’s death and charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk of harm, an arrest warrant said.

Jenerette remains in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Samantha Gaymes was released on bond.
