Man arrested after carjacking, stabbing attempt in Hanford, police say

HANFORD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to stab a victim while he was sitting in their car, the Hanford Police Department said.

On Tuesday, officers say they responded to the 200 block of South 12th Avenue in Hanford at around 8 p.m. regarding a man attempting to steal a vehicle while armed with a knife.

Upon arrival, police say the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Clinnon Brown Jr. barricaded inside the victim’s vehicle. Brown refused to follow any commands being given by officers and refused to exit the vehicle.

After several minutes of attempting to get Brown to exit the vehicle, Hanford Police say officers breached the passenger window of the vehicle due to the doors being locked. Brown was taken into custody without further incident on suspicion of carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and exhibit of a deadly weapon, and a probation violation.

Investigators say it was determined throughout the course of the investigation that the victim came to their vehicle where they found Brown seated in the driver’s seat. Brown was holding a knife at the time and attempted to stab the victim while chasing them around the vehicle. Brown then barricaded himself inside the victim’s vehicle once officers arrived on the scene.

No one was injured in this incident and the knife was recovered, police say.
