Man charged with murder after victim found with blunt force injuries Friday in Lexington

One man is dead and another has been arrested and charged with his murder after an assault Friday on Old Georgetown Street in Lexington.

The Lexington Police Department found a man suffering from blunt force trauma when they were called to the 100 block of Old Georgetown Street to respond to an assault with a weapon at 11:48 a.m., police said in a news release.

The man died at the scene, police said.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office later identified him as Charles McDowell, 57.

McDowell was pronounced dead at 12:37 p.m. at 199 Old Georgetown Street, according to a news release from the coroner’s office. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday in Frankfort.

Police arrested Roger Wiley, 55, and charged him with murder and second-degree assault. He was being held Friday afternoon in the Fayette County Detention Center.

The incident marks the seventh homicide of the year for Lexington, according to police. At this point last year, there had been nine homicides.
