Man dead after officer-involved shooting in Craig: Police

DENVER (KDVR) — A man is dead after the Craig Police Department and Moffat County Sheriff’s Office said there was an officer-involved shooting Friday night.

Details are limited, but the agencies issued a joint press release about the incident saying officers responded to a report of a man with a handgun at a residence in the Cedar Mountain Trailer Park, located at 925 W. 1st Street, at about 9:40 p.m.

“Arriving on scene, the officer and deputy were confronted by a male subject brandishing a handgun. An officer-involved shooting occurred,” the press release stated.

According to the release, the shooting involved one Craig police officer and one deputy with the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement provided aid to the man until paramedics arrived and he was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries, according to the release.

No further details about the incident are being released at this time. The officer and deputy involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, and the 14th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating.

“Additional details will be released when appropriate, while being mindful of the ongoing investigation,” the release stated. “The involved agencies are responsible for releasing the names of their involved officer/deputy.”

Members of the CIRT will continue to interview witnesses and those involved in the coming days. An internal investigation will happen separate from the CIRT investigation.
