A 34-year-old man deliberately hit with a van a paramedic who was blocking a road after an accident in southern Germany on the border with Austria.

After the car hit the 54-year-old, the first aider held on to the open driver's window to avoid being hit by the wheels in the town of Freilassing in the region of Upper Bavaria, but the 34-year-old driver carried on on for around 50 metres until an Austrian police officer who happened to be present finally stopped him, the police reported on Saturday.

The incident happened on Friday, they said.

An accident had occurred earlier in the day in the Berchtesgadener Land district, which is just across the border from the Austrian city of Salzburg, when a car driver hit a 7-year-old boy who had driven onto the road between two cars on a scooter.

Paramedics took care of the slightly injured child and cordoned off the road to make it easier for the emergency services. However, the 34-year-old driver "did not agree" with the closure and "deliberately" drove towards the 54-year-old paramedic, who had stood on the road to divert traffic.

Police officers took the 34-year-old man to the police station. He is now being investigated for dangerous interference with road traffic. He had to surrender his driving licence.

According to the police, the paramedic was "miraculously only slightly injured." According to the spokesman, he went to the doctor on his own.

The seven-year-old boy was taken to hospital with minor injuries, he said.
