Man killed, woman hurt in Topeka shooting

Update 6:03 p.m.- The Topeka Police Department (TPD) identified the man who died in the shooting as 23-year-old Brian M. Wright, of Topeka. This is the seventh homicide investigation of the year, according to TPD.

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka Police Department is investigating an overnight shooting that left one man dead and a woman hurt.

According to a news release, around 2:15 a.m. on Friday officers responded to a report of gunshots in the 3100 block of Southwest Westover Road in west Topeka. They arrived to find a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police said both victims were transported to a local hospital. The man later died. The woman’s injuries are considered to be life-threatening.

The woman’s name has not been released at this time. The incident is under investigation.
