Man sentenced to 41 years in prison for killing after prom
ST. LOUIS — A man has been sentenced to over four decades in prison for a senseless killing of Jayla Farr, 21, after a high school prom. Emonne Dillon, 20, received 20 years for second-degree murder, 15 years for unlawful use of a weapon, and three years each for two counts of armed criminal action, all to be served consecutively.
A woman was killed, and two people, including a teenage boy, were injured in a triple shooting on May 2, 2023 in north St. Louis County. Police responded just before 9:30 p.m. to the 10400 block of Halls Ferry Road after a fight broke out outside a home. Jayla Farr, 21, was found dead outside the home, while an 18-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy were found injured inside. The teenage boy had minor injuries, and the woman had non-life-threatening injuries.
Dillon shot Farr and fired nine rounds toward the house where the fight was happening. Eyewitnesses, police officers, detectives, lab technicians, ballistic experts, and the medical examiner testified during the trial. The jury also reviewed bystander videos.

One witness testified that the victim had told Dillon to “put away the gun – this is a female fight.” Then he shot and killed her.
“This was one of the most senseless killings I have ever seen. There is absolutely no reason why this young woman is not alive today. The terrible, remorseless judgment of this young man cost an innocent young woman her life, and our office and law enforcement partners have ensured that he is being held accountable for his actions,” states St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell.
