WORCESTER ― Police are investigating a stabbing Wednesday afternoon that left a man with serious injuries.

Officers responded around 1 p.m. to the area of the Price Chopper supermarket on 29 Sunderland Road, where they found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

A police spokesman, Joe Cersosimo, said officers later identified a suspect, who led them on a short foot chase that ended in the area of Green Street. Cersosimo said the suspect kicked officers as they took him into custody. He also said officers removed a large kitchen knife from the suspect's pants.

Authorities will not be releasing the suspect's name as he is a juvenile. He is facing a number of charges including assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed assault to murder, disorderly contact and disturbing the peace.

The victim has not been identified.
