Man tried to cash fake checks at five St. Louis County banks before arrest

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Kentucky man attempted to cash a counterfeit check at five St. Louis County banks, and successfully did so at three, prior to his arrest last week.

Prosecutors have charged Mark Buckler, 53, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, with four counts of forgery amid the investigation.

According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Buckler first visited Commerce Bank locations in Kirkwood, Eureka, and Fenton on May 31, using a counterfeit check to acquire money from all three banks.

Two weeks later, on June 14, Buckler reportedly showed a counterfeit check to a Commerce Bank employee in Affton, who deemed it a fake and called police. Buckler escaped from the bank before officers arrived.

Later that day, Buckler visited a Commerce Bank location in Breckenridge Hills and once again attempted to cash a counterfeit check. Employees notified police, who were able to stop Buckler before he could leave the bank.
