Maximo's on Broad to close: Why the Memphis restaurant's owner said it was 'inevitable'

Another restaurant on Broad Avenue will permanently close its doors.

Binghampton eatery Maximo's on Broad announced Tuesday morning that it will shut down for good after almost nine years in business. The final day of business will be Saturday, June 29.

Owned and operated by husband-and-wife duo Julio and Amy Zuniga, Maximo's on Broad is a tapas restaurant and wine bar that specializes in tapas, Spanish appetizers, served alongside an extensive selection of wines, cocktails and martinis. There are also a few more traditional seafood, steak and chicken entrees.

In the statement released Tuesday, Amy Zuniga attributed the closure to a lack of staff and a decline in business, which she said made the choice "ultimately inevitable." She expressed her gratitude to loyal Memphians despite a bittersweet end.

"We are truly grateful to have met so many wonderful people and to have made some incredible friends through the years," Zuniga said. "We want to thank you, Memphis, for all of your support and allowing us to bring our concept to the city. We are sad to go, and will miss all of our loyal customers, who made this journey worth it."

This isn't the first restaurant in Binghampton to close this year. Bounty on Broad, which specialized in gluten-free cuisine, closed in April. Bounty was also open for about 10 years.
