MENASHA — The party that's been 150 years in the making will have to wait a bit longer.

Due to forecasts of inclement weather, the city postponed Celebrate Menasha, its downtown sesquicentennial festival, that was scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

"This decision is made in the interest of protecting community safety and well-being," the city said in a news release. "The Sesquicentennial Committee further aims for a celebration unimpeded by poor weather conditions to best represent the 150th anniversary milestone."

City staff and committee members are working with volunteers, donors, entertainers and vendors to identify new dates for the festival, which will feature carnival rides and games, food trucks, live music and what's billed as the Fox Valley's first-ever drone shows.

An authors panel scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday still will be held. People can gather in the lobby of Community First Credit Union, 201 Main St., to speak with local authors David Galassie, John Gremmer, Steve Krueger, Gavin Schmitt and Rebecca Zornow.

Menasha incorporated as a city on March 5, 1874, and has been celebrating its sesquicentennial since January.
