A Mississippi mother is charged with murder, with police alleging that she drowned her 2-year-old son.

Lauderdale County Sheriff Ward Calhoun said in a press conference streamed by WTOK that Adrienne McDevitt was arrested after her son, Kelly McDevitt Jr., was found dead by deputies responding to a domestic disturbance.

Adrienne is charged with murder and is currently being held on a $500,000 bond and will be transferred to jail once she is released from a medical facility.

Calhoun alleged in the press conference that Kelly was “forcibly drowned” and that when deputies responded, Adrienne was alone with the child in the home.

“This is certainly a tragic event for this family and for our community,” Calhoun said.
