Spanish police say there have been "no developments" in the search for missing British teenager Jay Slater.

Slater, 19, was reported missing on Monday last week after he failed to return to the apartment he was sharing with friends in Tenerife.

With the search now in its eighth day, local police told a reporter: "There is nothing. No developments."

Here is what we know - and don't know - about Slater's disappearance.

We know Slater, a 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, travelled to Tenerife with friends – Lucy Law and another named Brad – to attend the NRG Tenerife Weekender music festival.

It was Slater’s first holiday abroad without his parents. The festival, which bills itself as “three days of madness featuring pool parties, boat parties, outdoor raves, nightclub takeovers and much more”, ran from 14 to 16 June.

Law said Slater decided to stay out after the final night of the festival with two other people he had met there, while she and Brad returned to their accommodation. She said Slater "ended up out in the middle of nowhere".

His last known location was near the mountain village of Masca, an 11-hour walk away from where she and Brad were staying. Law suggested Slater hadn't realised how far away it was and had missed a bus. "He's set off walking, using his maps on his phone and ended up in the middle of mountains with nothing around."

Law said her friend told her in a frantic phone call on 17 June at 8.30am that he was “lost in the mountains, he wasn’t aware of his surroundings, he desperately needed a drink and his phone was on 1%”. His phone then went flat.

Slater was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with shorts and trainers. He was also believed to be carrying a black bag.

A Civil Guard [Spanish police] spokesperson said he was reported missing at 9.04am on Monday.

It has also emerged Slater shared a Snapchat an hour before he went missing, which showed him holding a cigarette at the accommodation he had visited with the two men at approximately 7.30am.

The property has been named as Casa Abuela Tina, a holiday home annexed to a bar and restaurant on the edge of Masca. It is understood to have been rented by two British men who are believed to have checked out on Wednesday before flying back to the UK.

A local woman named "Araceli", who works in the business adjoining the rental property, was quoted as saying Slater had been seen "walking on his own" before disappearing. She said: "I never saw the missing boy, but I know people saw him walking on his own. I saw the two British men who stayed here.

"They came in for cafe con leche a couple of times. One was aged about 40. The other one was slightly younger."

Search teams in Tenerife narrowed their efforts over the weekend to small buildings close to where his phone last pinged.

Officers could be seen circling two structures at the bottom of a ravine in Rural de Teno Park on Sunday.

Efforts appeared to be solely focused on one area after days of searches in the village of Masca and the surrounding landscape.

The Foreign Office has said it is supporting Slater's family and is in contact with the authorities on the island. Slater's mother arrived in Tenerife on 18 June and has since been joined by other family members.

A grainy CCTV image circulated on Monday which it was claimed could show Slater walking past a church in the village of Santiago del Teide at about 6pm on the day he went missing.

This would make it about nine hours after his last contact with Law. Santiago del Teide is a 90-minute walk away from Masca.

However, we don't know the source of the CCTV image, or when or where it was captured. It was first posted on the Jay Slater Missing Facebook group last Thursday and has subsequently been published by various media outlets on Monday.

The Manchester Evening News reported the image was shared by Slater's family and friends in Tenerife, who believe it "matches Jay's appearance".

But there has been no comment on the record from Slater's family as yet about the image, nor have Spanish police confirmed if it is part of the investigation.

It was also reported on Tuesday that Spanish police are investigating Slater's background, to establish whether it's relevant to his disappearance.

According to the Daily Mail, police are aware of a previous conviction from 2023 when Slater was given a community sentence for violent disorder, for his involvement in an attack on a then-17-year-old with a machete. Spanish police have not confirmed to Yahoo News UK whether his disappearance is linked to this offence.

Ultimately, we don’t know what happened to Slater in the hours after his phone battery went flat, or the physical condition he was in.

We also don’t know who Slater was staying with. Law told the Manchester Evening News she had spoken to these people but didn’t give any further information about them.

She said they had told her Slater had left their apartment at about 8am on the day he went missing to “catch a bus”.

It is also not known what condition the teenager was in when he went missing. Slater's mother was quoted by Mail Online as saying: "He'd been at a three-day festival so he would have consumed a fair bit of alcohol but Jay was Snapchatting with friends before he went missing and seemed very compos mentis."
