JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey says he plans to file a lawsuit against the state of New York just weeks after former U.S. President Donald Trump was convicted of 34 felony charges in a hush-money trial.

Bailey made an announcement Thursday on social media platform X that reads, “I will be filing suit against the State of New York for their direct attack on our democratic process through unconstitutional lawfare against President Trump.”

On May 30, a jury convicted Trump on 34 counts of falsifying business records in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 election through a hush money payment to a porn actress. This made Trump the first former American president to be convicted of felony crimes.

Bailey added on X that the lawsuit comes in an effort to “fight back against a rogue prosecutor” and alleges that the verdict “sabotages Missourians’ right to a free and fair election.”
