More than 170 grams of ecstasy found during Palestine traffic stop

PALESTINE, Texas (KETK) – A traffic stop led to the arrest of a Palestine man on Tuesday after police seized suspected cocaine, ecstasy and marijuana.

According to a release, an officer with the Palestine Police Department stopped a vehicle at around 7:18 a.m. near the 1100 block of N. Queen Street for a traffic violation.

The officer reportedly detected “a strong odor of marijuana” coming from the vehicle when they made contact with the driver. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 34-year-old Charles Edward Hawkins of Palestine, a release said.

3.51 grams of suspected cocaine, 172.96 grams of ecstasy, and a small amount of marijuana were reportedly located by the officer after conducting a search of the vehicle.

Hawkins was charged with possession of marijuana and two counts of manufacture or deliver of a controlled substance. He was booked at the Anderson County Jail with a bond totaling $42,500.
