More than a dozen people displaced after apartment fire in Wrens

WRENS, Ga. (WJBF) – Volunteers from the East Central Georgia chapter of American Red Cross responded to the displacement of six families after a fire erupted Thursday night at the Pine Valley Apartments, according to a statement from the non-profit.

According to Wrens Fire Department LT. Landry Johnson, the entire F building of the apartment complex needed to be evacuated. The entire building is deemed to no longer be livable. Around six apartments were exposed to heavy fire damage, while roughly eight apartments in the building were damaged by smoke.

According to Lt. Johnson, the cause of the fire is believed to have stemmed from a cooking incident. There were not any reported injuries.

LT. Johnson said that his heart and of the rest of the Wrens Fire Department team goes out to the families impacted.

“It’s just a terrible situation,” he said.

Fire crews from Wrens, Stapleton, Avera, Jefferson County and Louisville were on the scene providing service to the area.

Members of the Red Cross Disaster Action Team were on the scene Thursday to help provide emergency aid to those affected, including comfort kits, direct client assistance, and recovery planning to the families. In total, they are provided assistance to 14 people.
