A mother and her boyfriend arrested after 7-month-old was found unresponsive in a bathtub

A mother and her boyfriend were arrested by deputies after a 7-month-old baby was found unresponsive.

According to Lt. Ryan Flood with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, Lynda Leigh Nicole Lawson, 28, and Robert Eugene Bull Jr., 26, were charged with four counts of unlawful conduct toward a child — a count each for the infant and three other children in the home.

At about 4 p.m. on June 20, GCSO deputies responded to a report of an unresponsive male infant at a home on Hunts Bridge Road in Berea. According to Flood, deputies found the child in a bathtub and began life-saving measures. The child was taken to PRISMA Memorial Hospital by ambulance and was listed as stable but in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation determined the child was left unattended in the bathtub for an undetermined amount of time. Lawson found the child unresponsive when she returned to the bathroom, according to police.

Investigators described the home as deplorable and unsafe. According to warrants provided by Flood, the home was infested with fleas and roaches. Illegal narcotics and paraphernalia were also found near the infant.

The other children in the home were placed in the custody of the Department of Social Services.

Lawson and Bull were being held in the Greenville County Detention Center each on a $20,000 bond.
