Mother of Spanish Fork teen hit in pedestrian crash shares ‘heartbreaking’ update

SPANISH FORK, Utah (ABC4) — The mother of a 13-year-old who was hit in a Spanish Fork pedestrian crash last month provided an update on her daughter’s condition, saying “It doesn’t look like she’s gonna make it.”

Reagan and her friend Olivia were crossing an intersection at 2300 East Canyon Road on Saturday, May 18, when they were struck by an oncoming Kia. Both girls were hospitalized at Primary Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

While Olivia was later released from the hospital, Reagan remained in a medically induced coma. On Wednesday, June 5, Reagan’s mother posted on social media thanking everyone for their love and prayers before updating the community on her daughter’s condition.

“Unfortunately the doctors have said that there is too much damage to her brain which is the part to help her wake up so it doesn’t look like she’s gonna make it. My husband and family are completely devasted and are still in shock so we would love continued prayers as we try to move forward with this unimaginable heartbreaking tragedy. We are still hoping for a miracle!”

The post received nearly 100 comments within the first couple of hours from community members sharing their support and offering prayers.

Since the crash, Spanish Fork residents have rallied and raised concerns over the intersection where the girls were hit. Spanish Fork Mayor Mike Mendenhall said the city has been working with UDOT to install a traffic light since the fall of 2022.

“After a traffic study was completed, the signal was designed last year to be built this year and the project is already out for bid,” said Mendenhall in a statement. “We anticipate that it will be completed in the next few months.”
