Motorcyclist killed after striking guardrail in Chester

A motorcyclist was killed after hitting a guardrail on Route 148 in Chester early Thursday and getting thrown from the bike.

The victim, 27-year-old Sean Francis Guiheen of Killingworth, was pronounced dead at the hospital following a crash reported just before 1:20 a.m. near the Cedar Lake Road intersection, according to Connecticut State Police.

Heading west on Route 148 riding a 2007 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, state police said Guiheen was negotiating a right curve in the road when he veered into the eastbound lane and struck a metal beam guardrail. He was thrown from the bike during the crash.

Guiheen was taken in an ambulance to Middlesex Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to state police, the Connecticut Department of Transportation was notified that about 40 feet of the guardrail was damaged during the collision.

The crash is still being investigated.
