National Weather Service issues heat advisory for Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Frederick County beginning Saturday at 11 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m.

Temperatures will be in the upper 90s during the day, saying oppressive heat and humidity will affect the area Saturday and last into Sunday, according to the advisory.

The heat index is forecast to peak around 105 degrees to 107 degrees, according to the weather service.

According to the advisory, hot temperatures and high humidity will spread across Maryland, Washington, D.C., and parts of Virginia and West Virginia and may lead to heat illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The National Weather Service encourages people to drink plenty of fluids, wear lightweight and loose clothing when possible and stay in air-conditioned spaces and out of the sun.

Adults should not leave children or pets unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, and people should take extra precautions if they work or spend time outside, such as scheduling frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
