No. 1 Barton to play in NJCAA Championship game

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) — The Final Four teams in the NJCAA Tournament took the floor on Thursday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The last Kansas team standing, No. 1 Barton Community College, beat Indian Hills 93-78 to advance to Saturday’s final.

“We’re really excited for our program, excited for our guys, you know. They’ve worked so hard to get to this point, and we were able to pull it off. Win, lose, or draw, I would have been really pleased with our team, just, just because we’ve had such a great year. But really excited that they got a chance to bring home a national championship to Barton. It would be the first time in school history,” Jeremy Coombs, Barton Community College head men’s basketball coach, said.

Cougar fans are excited.

“My uncle is the head coach. So, I’m super excited and happy for him,” Cohen Campbell, Barton fan, said

“My wife and I have been coming to this tournament since 1977. I’m really excited about the Barton team because they’re very deep, and they play the best defense here. And those are two things that are really important,” Douglas Panning, Barton fan, said.

Barton is taking on No. 7 seed Triton College for the title on Saturday at 1 p.m.
