North Mecklenburg business looks to consolidate in Cornelius

CORNELIUS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A north Mecklenburg business that partners with Lowe’s and Home Depot is looking to consolidate its offices at a site visible from Interstate 77.

Joining a stretch of auto-related businesses, Registix plans to relocate to Chartown Drive in Cornelius, just south of the new Lake Norman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership. CEO Filip Maciolowski said at Monday’s Board of Commissioners’ meeting the company provides reverse logistics for the two home improvement giants, liquidating inventory from distribution centers directly to their customers.

The proposed rezoning would allow two buildings, a 40,000-square-foot corporate office building along the street and a 30,000-square-foot warehouse-style business development center behind it. The office building would be three stories with a “rooftop amenity;” Maciolowski said he envisions an aesthetic similar to Restoration Hardware.

Registix’s 4.1-acre property is keeping the environment and neighbors in mind. There would be a tree-save area on the side closest to Lake Pines Drive. It’s a 50-foot buffer at its smallest end, expanding to 100 feet. Further, a walking trail is planned surrounding the entire property.

Tucker said there are plans to add a pedestrian connector between Lake Pines Drive and Chartown adjacent to the site, but noted neighbors at a community meeting would rather save as many trees as possible instead.

“It would be great to have evergreen trees to supplement the tree-save area for when leaves fall off trees,” Cornelius Senior Planner Tucker said.

Registix currently has its headquarters in Huntersville, with other facilities in Cornelius off Bailey Road, plus in Charlotte and Durham. The CEO said there would be 50-60 employees working at the new site.

A vote to allow the rezoning will be held at a date to be determined.
