NY Electric Zoo festival to refund festivalgoers nine months later

NEW YORK (PIX11) — Attendees of last year’s Electric Zoo festival are set to receive ticket refunds nearly nine months later, organizers announced this week.

Electric Zoo organizers shared on Instagram Wednesday that their ticket provider will be refunding some ticketholders after last year’s debacle. However, there are a few stipulations to receiving a refund.

Anyone who purchased a single-day ticket for Sept. 1, 2023, or Sept. 3, 2023, is eligible for a full refund if their ticket wasn’t scanned and they did not file a dispute or chargeback with their bank, organizers said. Anyone who bought a two-day ticket will get a 50% refund. Attendees who bought a three-day ticket will get a 33% refund.

“Those who are eligible will be contacted directly via email with further instructions and can expect refunds to be processed by July 19, 2024,” organizers said.

The electronic dance music festival faced a myriad of problems throughout its three-day spread. The festival was canceled hours before opening its first day due to supply chain issues that delayed the completion of the main stage, according to organizers. On the second day, hundreds of people waited in line for hours but couldn’t get in.

On the final day of the festival, staff prohibited festivalgoers from entering after reaching capacity. It was later revealed that organizers oversold the event by 7,000 tickets.

Nearly 90,000 people attended the festival, police said.
