Officers injured after person stole police car, crashed near Fair Oaks Shopping Center, police say

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Police said two officers were injured after someone stole a police cruiser and crashed near Fair Oaks Shopping Center on Friday afternoon.

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said officers were investigating a stolen vehicle in the shopping center when the person took a police cruiser. FCPD said the person in the cruiser hit another police car, in the area.

Two dead in three-car crash, fire on I-270 in Montgomery County

Officers were able to detain the person.

FCPD said two officers and the person accused of stealing the cruiser had non-life-threatening injuries.

At 12:36 p.m., FCPD posted on X that the westbound lanes on Government Center Parkway at Post Forest Drive are closed as detectives investigate the scene.
