Evacuations lifted after Las Vegas floods with rainwater

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (KRQE) – A flash flood emergency was issued for Las Vegas, New Mexico, and Romeroville Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS said one to four inches of rain fell in the area on Friday, including the southern part of the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon burn scar.

As flash flooding began to impact the community, Las Vegas opened two shelters and asked residents to evacuate. On Saturday evening, authorities said evacuations had been lifted.
