One arrested, 450 fentanyl pills recovered in SLC drug bust

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department say they have arrested a 54-year-old man and recovered nearly 450 fentanyl pills from a downtown apartment complex after receiving a tip about a “drug problem” in the area earlier this week.

Joshua Seidman was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one count of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and one count of use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

The investigation started just after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, at an apartment complex located near 100 South and 300 East. Police reported being able to smell “burning synthetic drugs” from one specific apartment unit and could hear several people inside. When officers knocked on the door, they said they did not receive a response.

As officers continued their investigation, Seidman allegedly opened the door to the apartment and the burning smell reportedly became significantly stronger.

Investigators secured a court-ordered search warrant and entered the apartment. During the search, police reportedly found the large amount of fentanyl along with methamphetamine, heroin, spice, over $700 in cash, and several cell phones.

Seidman, who was listed as the apartment’s tenant, was safely taken into custody.

“As a police department, we are taking a proactive and strategic approach of addressing drug trafficking,” said Chief Mike Brown. “With each drug arrest we make, we are disrupting the flow of drugs in our city. Our officers are doing incredible work addressing crime in our city. They deserve recognition for their work on this case and the dedicated community service they provide each day.”

No other arrests have reportedly been made.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
