Woman ejected, killed in crash on I-135 south of Newton

NEWTON, Kan. (KSNW) — A crash on Interstate 135 killed one woman on Saturday afternoon.

The call came in at 1:39 p.m. from the northbound lanes of I-135, near the exit for SE 36th St. just south of Newton.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said 29-year-old Konner L. Hayes was driving a car south on I-135 when she crossed the median of the interstate and collided with a semi-truck heading north.

The KHP said Hayes was ejected from her vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kansas Department of Transportation temporarily closed I-135.
