Oregon has the highest pollen count in the US. Here’s when allergy sufferers could see relief

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – For the second day of summer, Oregon again has the highest pollen count in the United States, according to Pollen.com.

While 51% of the U.S. pollen count is in low-medium status, Oregon’s count ranges from medium to high around the state, according to Pollen.com’s National Allergy Map.

As of Friday, the Portland metro area is in the medium-high category. The high-category area stretches from the city of Gardiner, through Eugene, to Bend, according to the allergy map.

Top allergens for areas around Eugene include grasses, juniper, and dock.

But when will Oregonians see relief from allergies?

“Rain would be the quickest way to clear Oregon and Washington’s pollen-filled skies, but a dry forecast remains for much of the Pacific Northwest,” said KOIN 6 News Meteorologist Josh Cozart.

“The good news is pollen counts will likely drop by the Fourth of July,” Cozart added. “Farmers will start harvesting grass seed along the Willamette Valley in the coming weeks. The clearing of these fields will help to reduce the grass allergens significantly by the start of July.”

According to Pollen.com, Eugene, Salem, Portland, and Medford rank among the worst cities in the United States for allergy sufferers, as of Friday’s pollen forecast.
