Overland Park man accused of taking ‘upskirting’ photos at Oak Park Mall

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 29-year-old Overland Park man faces two counts of breach of privacy. The Johnson County District Attorney’s office filed these charges after the suspect, Austin Flynn, was accused of taking photos of young women from an “upskirting” angle at Oak Park Mall.

An affidavit shows that investigators say on June 9, Overland Park police were notified by Sephora asset protection that a man, later identified as Flynn, was using his cell phone to take inappropriate photos of a group of females.

The court document says an Overland Park detective witnessed Flynn taking the photos, and after he left, spoke with the group who ranged in age from 11 to 19.

While collecting this information, other detectives and officers made contact with Flynn, who was arrested and taken to a police substation.

During an interview with investigators, Flynn gave consent to a search of his phone and admitted to taking the photos in Sephora, Forever 21 and on escalators.

The affidavit says Flynn told investigators he had not had sexual gratification in some time. He also said that he learned how to take the photos on social media, and that while he was unaware of their ages, he preferred to photograph younger women over the age of 18.

FOX4 reached out to the attorney representing Flynn, who said they needed time to review the evidence before providing a comment.

Flynn posted bond a day after his arrest and is due back in court on July 30 for a diversion hearing.
