P.E.I. RCMP asking public for help after Murray Harbour North mini home fire
Fire destroyed a mini home and camper in Murray Harbour North Thursday evening, and RCMP in southeastern P.E.I. are looking for information about what started the flames.
Just after 7 p.m. Thursday, the Murray River Fire Department received several 911 calls regarding a fire on Hollow Road.
Fire Chief Troy Ferguson said when the firefighters arrived at the property, a mini home was on fire, as well as a camper that was parked beside it.
The trailer and the home were both destroyed.
The fire had already spread into the trees behind the dwelling when firefighters arrived, but they were able to put out the flames before it spread any further.
There was nobody at the site when crews got there, Ferguson said, and no one was injured.
Cpl. Gavin Moore, the media relations officer for the RCMP on P.E.I., said it was clear this fire's cause was suspicious, so they will be looking at arson as a charge once a suspect is found.
"Certainly, we take an investigation like this very seriously," Moore said.
He wants Islanders to reach out to the Kings District RCMP if they have any information at all regarding the fire.
"It's often those little pieces of information that can really help an investigation, and we encourage anybody to come forward if they believe they can assist in this investigation."
