According to a post on X from the Chicago Park District, the fountain’s closure was effective immediately, as of around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, and will be closed until further notice as the fountain undergoes maintenance due to the vandalism.

Photos circulating around social media appear to show the ground around the fountain spray painted with the words, “Gaza is bleeding,” though authorities have not confirmed this.

Chicago police have not released suspect information at this time.

Future updates on the condition of the Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park will be posted to X, according to the Chicago Park District.
