PHOTOS: X-ray shows cat attempted to eat sewing needle that got lodged in nasal cavity

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A Portland cat has made a full recovery after attempting to eat a sewing needle that had lodged in his mouth and impaled his nasal cavity.

The cat, Kevin, was originally taken to an urgent care clinic because he had been vomiting and seemed to have difficulty swallowing. The hospital referred him to DoveLewis, where the needle was eventually discovered.

According to DoveLewis, “Kevin snuck into a child’s room where a sewing project was laid out. His curiosity led him to the project and sewing needle, which then impaled through his hard palate and into his nasal cavity, causing immense discomfort and danger.”

Veterinarians discovered the blunt end of the needle had been pressing against the base of Kevin’s tongue and gently removed it while the cat was sedated.

“This case highlights the importance of immediate and expert veterinary intervention,” DoveLewis Critical Care Specialist Dr. Hannah Marshall said. “We’re so glad Kevin’s family trusted us with his care, and we’re thrilled to see how quickly he recovered.”

The family reported that Kevin has fully recovered and “is back to his curious antics.”
