Plane Engine Fire Forces Emergency Landing After Possible Bird Strike: WATCH

"Heard a loud bang and went outside to see a plane engine on fire," a bystander who took video of the event on June 17 wrote on Facebook

Dramatic video captured a plane with its engine engulfed in flames on Monday.

Virgin Australia flight 148 traveling from Queenstown, N.Z. to Melbourne on June 17 made an emergency landing after its engine caught fire due to "a possible bird-strike," the airline said in a statement to PEOPLE.

The airline confirmed emergency services had responded to the scene and they are not aware of any physical injuries to guests or crew.

Per the Australian Broadcasting Corp., flames could be seen coming from the Boeing 737-800 jet shortly after it took off at 5:50 a.m. local time from Queenstown Airport. The 67 passengers and six crew members were forced to divert to Invercargill Airport where the plane landed safely.

ABC News spoke to a passenger on the flight named Michael Hayward who said that flames appeared to be coming from the plane's engines shortly after takeoff.

"After 50 minutes of flying to burn fuel and lose weight, the aircraft diverted to Invercargill," Hayward said.

A bystander on the ground in New Zealand, Darren Robinson, of Shotover Country in Queenstown, captured video of the plane and the flames. He can be heard on the video answering a child's questions about what was happening.

"Heard a loud bang and went outside to see a plane engine on fire," he wrote in a caption on Facebook. "Hopefully they land safely."
