Police: Madison Twp. woman stabbed husband in back

A Madison Twp. woman faces charges after stabbing her husband during argument Thursday, police said.

State police responded to 436 Yedinak Lane at 5:25 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from Richard Gornowicz Jr. who said he was stabbed in the back by his wife, Samantha Gornowicz, according to a criminal complaint.

When a trooper spoke with Samantha Gornowicz, 35, at 5:30 p.m. on the front porch of the residence, she told troopers she got into a verbal argument with Richard Gornowicz and that she stabbed him, police said.

She also told troopers she kicked Richard Gornowicz out of their house a few days ago following verbal arguments about her falling back into alcohol usage and him taking all her guns out of the residence, according to the complaint.

Samantha Gornowicz admitted she was drinking scotch when Richard Gornowicz arrived at the house Thursday between 4 and 5 p.m., police said. He became angry she was drinking and about dirty dishes in the sink.

Samantha Gornowicz told troopers her husband assaulted her in the kitchen by putting his hands around her throat, police said.

She then grabbed a six-inch steak knife with a smooth blade and stabbed him once in the back because she was scared he was going to hurt her, according to the complaint.

When a trooper interviewed Richard Gornowicz at Geisinger Community Medical Center, he told them he was at the sink when his wife wanted him to leave, police said.

He then told troopers he noticed his left ear was cut after Samantha Gornowicz put him in a chokehold. When he turned away to leave the residence, Samantha Gornowicz stabbed him in the back, police said.

Richard Gornowicz was diagnosed with a stab wound at the hospital. Troopers also discovered he had a puncture wound on his left inner ear and a small puncture wound on his left lower back.

Police charged Gornowicz with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and simple assault. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 24 at 11:15 a.m.
