Portable chargers sold at Costco recalled after two house fires

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Portable chargers that were sold exclusively at Costco have been recalled following over 100 reports that the devices can overheat, including two reports of customers’ homes catching fire.

The myCharge-branded chargers were recalled by myCharge on Thursday. The company noted that the devices pose a “fire and burn hazard when charging.”

The recall impacts approximately 567,000 myCharge POWER HUB All-In-One 10,000mAh portable chargers with model numbers AO10FK-A, AO10FK-B AND AO10FK-C. The recalled chargers also have date codes ending in 21, 22 or 23, though only four of the codes ending in 23 are affected by the recall (0123, 0923, 1523 and 1723).

The chargers were sold exclusively at Costco and Costco.com from Jan. 2022 through Nov. 2023.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said there had been a total of 120 reports of the charger overheating, five of which resulted in “incidents.” Among them were two fires that caused around $165,000 in property damage, the CPSC said. Costco also received reports of the chargers “melting,” “smoking” and “exploding,” according to the agency.

Customers who purchased the recalled chargers are urged to stop using them, cut the charging cables, take a photo of the device and send their image and information to myCharge for a replacement, the company said.

More information, including additional instructions concerning a replacement, can be obtained at myCharge’s official website or contacting the company at 888-251-2026 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or via email at compliance@mycharge.com
