‘Portside in Old Town Summer Festival’ canceled due to extreme heat emergency

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) — Organizers of the Portside in Old Town Summer Festival have announced that Saturday’s Jazz Fest has been canceled.

This comes after the heat index for June 22 was predicted to exceed 100 degrees. As a result, organizers Saturday’s event was canceled due to the “heat emergency.”

As of Friday, there are no plans to reschedule the festival.

According to organizers, Friday’s annual ALX Jazz Fest at Portside will continue as scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Water will be available across food vendors and medical professionals will be on site.

The free festival features an array of live music and local craft beer on the Alexandria waterfront. From jazz performances and readings by local poets, the Old Town Summer Festival is also celebrating the city’s 275th anniversary with the Port City Brewing Company.

On Friday evening, there will be a “Dominion Energy Lawn Game Zone,” and “275th-inspired: activities and games.”
