Prosecutor: More charges for Coldwater man who hit 2 with truck

COLDWATER, Mich. (WOOD) — The Branch County prosecutor says additional charges, including three counts of stalking, have been filed against a Coldwater man who allegedly hit two people with his truck on purpose.

On June 10, two pedestrians were airlifted to the hospital after a hit-and-run crash in Kinderhook Township in far southern Branch County, according to a criminal complaint filed June 11. The complaint says MaCain Snyder, of Coldwater, meant to hit the two pedestrians with his truck because he believed they were guilty of sexual assault — though the person he claimed was the victim said the allegations were not true.

Snyder was initially charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder and two counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death, according to the criminal complaint.

Now, the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office says it has filed additional charges against Snyder. He was arraigned Friday on three counts of aggravated stalking of victims other than those involved in the crash, one count of using a computer to commit a crime and one count of malicious use of a telephone service, according to the office. Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien told News 8 the additional charges reflect premeditation.

Prosecutors say they also filed a motion to raise Snyder’s bond, which was originally set at $1 million. The court on Friday set his bond at $10.3 million in total and said he may not have contact with the alleged victims, according to the prosecutor’s office.
