Raleigh County Commissioner Greg Duckworth takes position of commission president, after sudden death of Dave Tolliver

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Raleigh County Commissioner Greg Duckworth was appointed president of the commission, after a special meeting on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

Commissioner Linda Epling nominated Duckworth for the president’s position after former President Dave Tolliver passed away unexpectedly on June 3, leaving behind a number of infrastructure projects Tolliver had launched.

Duckworth said on Tuesday that he was grateful for Epling’s support.

“I’m flattered to take it and, at the same time, very sad at the passing of Dave Tolliver,” said President Duckworth. “He had a lot of projects going that we’re going to make sure we see through. They’re big, big shoes to fill, and we’ve got a lot of work to be done and a lot of projects to finish, so we’ll just keep moving forward.”

At the next public Commission meeting, Duckworth and Epling are expected to appoint Daniel Hall to fill Tolliver’s vacancy, at least until voters choose a new commissioner.

He will run against a Democratic nominee for the commission seat in the November general election.
