Rep. Michael Waltz and other House members jump from an airplane to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

A bipartisan group of U.S. House members took a leap Friday — from an airplane to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

“I wish I could bring every American high school class out here to walk this hallowed ground at Omaha, at D-Day, see the crosses, and just commemorate this historic event,” Rep. Michael Waltz (R-FL), clad in World War II-era military garb, said in an interview with Fox Business’ Stuart Varney after his jump.

The group, which included 10 members of the U.S. House of Representatives who are veterans, jumped from a vintage aircraft and parachuted into Normandy for a historical reenactment of D-Day. Waltz, who organized the jump with Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO), shared with Fox Business footage of his jump from the plane, recorded in first-person-perspective from a camera attached to his helmet.

In an interview with ABC News, Waltz said the group wanted to do the jump for dual purposes: So Americans could see members of Congress are capable of coming together, and so they could honor veterans.

Crow and Waltz made a similar jump for D-Day’s 75th anniversary, but there was greater interest this year because there are fears this may be the last major milestone anniversary to honor the dwindling numbers of WWI veterans.
